Eigen Innovation Dashboard
Project Overview
The Eigen Innovations Image Search project aimed to leverage AI and thermal imaging to identify and review past potential defects in industrial products. The interface streamlined defect management by allowing users to search, cross-reference, and report defects, minimizing errors in manufacturing decisions.
Process Highlights
Research
Conducted interviews with stakeholders, including manufacturing experts, to understand their pain points with existing tools. Key insights included:
Conducted interviews with stakeholders, including manufacturing experts, to understand their pain points with existing tools. Key insights included:
Difficulty in cross-referencing defect images.
Lack of a robust search feature to quickly locate defect examples.
Ideation
Inspired by Pinterest's image search and identification features, I brainstormed potential solutions. Initial sketches user flows and low-fidelity wireframes were my exploration methods to make image search and defect tagging more intuitive.

Iterations:
Feedback from stakeholders guided multiple iterations of the dashboard. Notable changes included:

Improving the visual hierarchy of image thumbnails for clarity.
Enhancing tagging functionality to ensure accuracy.

User flow Consideration
Users can search for defect types, view detailed images and tag them with notes, or corrective actions- all designed to reduce user errors and improve decision making efficiency.

Eigen Image Identification User Flow
Mid-Fidelity Mockup
The mid-fidelity mockup features a clean, user-centered layout with:
Introduction to a new icon(Blue) function where users can isolate and search for similar defects.
Image thumbnails arranged and dated for quick comparison and cross-referencing.
Interactive tagging and reporting options incorporated into the image search.
Image search feature can be accessed through dashboard and image search grid

Outcome
Results in the project enabled users to utilize predictive analysis which lowered misidentification of defects by 20%. Clients utilizing the beta software found that isolating sections and flagging defects, enabled the A.I to understand further of product tolerances. Engineers took confidence that the data presented and shared through the dashboard image allowed them to print reports for their colleagues, subsequently to make better decisions in manufacturing.
Lesson Learned
Collaboration is Key
Working closely with subject matter experts was crucial in understanding the nuances of industrial defect detection and incorporating them into the design.
