"To boldly go...."
In 2020, the world faced an unprecedented challenge with the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing daily life to a near standstill. While some worked from home, others, like myself, used this time to sharpen their skills and explore new creative opportunities. During this period, I embraced my passion for sci-fi and retro aesthetics by developing an LCAR-inspired interface—a project influenced by my love for Star Trek: The Next Generation.
I drew upon the iconic starship control panels, blending minimalistic starship icons sourced from the Noun Project with a vibrant, sleek color palette reflective of Starfleet’s visual language. This design experiment allowed me to explore how such retro aesthetics could be integrated into modern digital products, especially mobile and tablet interfaces.
In designing for mobile and tablet screens, I focused on making the LCAR-inspired interface highly functional within smaller, touch-based environments. I ensured the design was intuitive, offering responsive layouts and dynamic scalability to maximize usability without compromising the retro-futuristic appeal. My goal was to take users on a seamless journey that feels nostalgic yet perfectly adapted for today’s technology.
This project not only provided a productive creative outlet during challenging times but also strengthened my ability to adapt bold, thematic concepts to contemporary design challenges, especially across varied screen sizes and device types. I hope it inspires others who share a passion for design and sci-fi to merge these worlds into innovative digital experiences.
